Jupiter's Journal #3 ... mental health winters
We are officially entering the deeper winter here in the western hemisphere and traditionally most of us keep pushing often harder in this "festive season" whereas really our bodies need rest most....
Hi friends,
I love the adrenaline of being busy. Running from one meeting to the next, especially when that meeting went well, is always such a high!
Sadly, everything comes at a cost. Mental health is the cost of this hustle mindset so I have been working hard for years on getting this balance right.
With Websummit in Lisbon and Slush in Helsinki, I have barely had time to organise my thoughts let alone get them down in writing.
Staying on that treadmill really takes a toll on a person both physically and mentally. Prioritising our mental wellbeing is something we're getting better at speaking about but old habits die hard. It’s very easy to have weeks go by especially if you are very passionate about what you do, without taking enough time to rest, exercise and sleep well.
Slowing your mind down through meditation, centring your thoughts and even just relaxing are not organic skills possessed by most entrepreneurs.
If you struggle with this as much as I do, I recommend signing up to my Reiki Master’s voice notes “Be Where You Are”. Their expertise in the field of self-care has taught me so much. Thank you River!
I also have some big announcements coming up on the horizon so keep your eyes peeled for the next journals.
Looking Up
Have you heard of an orrery? It’s an online map of real-time planetary positions, for some of us planet nerds check it out here.
Future Cities Dinner
We re-launched our Future Cities dinner series last week with entrepreneurs, investors and Real Estate professionals interested in making our cities better. It was great to have some Climatetech companies join us as well as our Proptech community. Read more about it here.
It was so well attended and loved that we will definitely be organising more of these, next one in February, keep an eye out in the next journals for this.
VC
There has been a lot of discussion around VC’s models and FTX - I liked Francesco’s evaluation here. What do you think?
I am working with some founders on a syndicate angel group if you are interested in angel investing or are already are and want to find out more about this let me know!
Future of Work / Proptech
New workplace research (funded by Microsoft) that reported that 85% of leaders say they aren’t confident that their workers are productive remotely. (Conversely 9 out 10 workers feel they are).
Interesting review of the rise and fall of scooter startups. You don’t need to upgrade to paid for this interesting snippet.
PropTech Companies Are Not Immune to The Great Resignation
Everything Workplace Culture - some really interesting charts on US hybrid work & office leasing right now.
ClimateTech
Interesting climate tech events happening in London in one calendar.
Cop27 as always quite controversial and at times uninspiring but What did COP27 accomplish and what actions can we expect as a result?
COP out: The world is burning. Will climate tech douse the flames?
Some more inspiring news from GenZero’s Frederick on what I am also seeing ‘Limitless Opportunities in ClimatTech’, its a very interesting space right now.
Climate tech investment is set to double, but are too many start-ups missing out?
Climate tech accounted for 25% of all venture investments in 2022, so why isn’t this good news?
Don’t let the great ESG self-deception infect climate tech investing
The Why
Worth a Listen
I liked this podcast on Founder’s mental health and team culture with Whoop Founder and Steve Bartlett.
This podcast is a win for AI - can you tell why?
Talks
You might have caught me on the Urban Tech Forward "How urban leaders can adopt innovations for multiple purposes" panel with Jason from AWS, Oscar from PWC, Jim from TA Technologies and Michal from the Smart City Poznan initiative. I love thinking about how we can improve our macro city infrastructures and micro happiness levels.
Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to read my ramblings.
I hope this post was useful and relevant to your journey, or at very least provided food for thought.
I would love to hear from you as to what you thought and how I could make it even more valuable to you.
Never stop learning :)

Wow.. This is easily 5 newsletters!
Love the hustle rush dark side conversation. It's so hard to repair the nervous system with downtime when you're jonesing for activity! Dangerous.
